LOS ANGELES (CNS) - After an eventful evening of thunderstorms that brought driving rain to parts of the Southland and an impressive lightning show, forecasters said conditions should be much calmer in the area today.
Monday's storms dropped nearly half an inch of rain in some areas, according to the National Weather Service. Forecasters said 0.41 inches of rain fell at Big Dalton Dam in Los Angeles County, while Santa Fe Dam recorded 0.33 inches of rain.
Santa Monica received 0.27 inches and Hansen Dam in the San Fernando Valley had 0.21 inches, according to the NWS. The Hollywood Reservoir recorded 0.15 inches, Woodland Hills recorded 0.19 inches, the Chatsworth Reservoir recorded 0.16 inches and Van Nuys recorded 0.13 inches.
Downtown L.A. recorded 0.11 inches of rain and Pasadena recorded 0.18 inches of rain.
Forecasters said Tuesday will be a “much quieter day ... following an impressive show of lightning last night.''
“Today (Tuesday) will be dry but cooler,'' according to the NWS. “The cooling tred is expected through Thursday, with an increase in night through morning low clouds. A frontal system may bring rain to the entire area by Thursday night and Friday. Dry weather is expected for the weekend.''
Forecasters said there is a 20% chance of showers in the San Gabriel Valley Tuesday, and a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms in the Riverside County valleys and L.A. County mountain areas.
