LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A 71-year-old man on a bicycle was killed today when he was struck by a car in the unincorporated Ladera Heights area of Los Angeles.

The crash occurred about 4:40 a.m. on Centinela Avenue at Alvern Street, according to California Highway Patrol Officer G. Ramos.

A 2019 Toyota Camry driven by 27-year-old Michael Tesfai of Culver City was westbound on Centinela Avenue in the number 2 lane when the man on the Cannondale bicycle southbound on Alvern Street made a right turn onto westbound Centinela in front of the car and was hit, Ramos said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles County paramedics, the officer said.

Tesfai was arrested for suspicion of DUI and booked at the Los Angeles County Jail after being treated for abrasions to his eyes and being medically cleared, Ramos said.
