LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A man was in custody today for allegedly committing a series of armed robberies in Los Angeles and Orange counties.

The man, whose name and age were not immediately released, was taken into custody Thursday and booked on suspicion of robbery, with bail set at $200,000, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department reported.

The suspect is believed to have robbed a number of businesses over a 10-day period -- including Arco gas stations and 7-Eleven stores -- in Norwalk, Whittier, Long Beach, Downey, La Palma, Buena Park, Irvine and Costa Mesa.

A warrant was issued for his arrest, and he was taken into custody during a traffic stop in Long Beach, said sheriff's Deputy Shawn Du Busky.

“He was in possession of a loaded handgun, believed to be the weapon used in several of the robberies,'' Du Busky alleged.
