TORRANCE (CNS) - A man was charged today with attempted murder for an alleged attack on a woman in Manhattan Beach.

Johnny Leroy Vigil, 40, of Manhattan Beach, was set to be arraigned today in a Torrance courtroom, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Police were called to the 200 block of El Porto Street about 3:35 a.m. Wednesday following reports of a man seen running from the backyard of a residence after a woman was heard screaming, according to the Manhattan Beach Police Department.

Officers found the woman seriously injured on her bedroom floor, police said.

She was taken to a hospital, where she was being treated for potentially life-threatening injuries, according to police.

Officers learned from witnesses and residential security video footage that the man had entered another residence, police said.

The man threatened to kill himself if police entered the residence, but officers were eventually able to convince the man to surrender just after 4:35 a.m., according to police.

He has remained jailed without bail since his arrest, jail records show.
