Ex-NHL Star Jimmy Hayes Dies at 31

Former NHL star Jimmy Hayes has died after passing out in his Massachusetts home on Monday, his family has revealed. He was only 31 years old.

  • EMT workers responded to a call from Hayes' Milton home sometime in the morning and pronounced him dead at the scene, authorities say. The death is not considered to be suspicious, according to police, and the cause is pending the results of an autopsy.
  • Hayes -- a graduate of Boston College -- appeared in 334 games over the course of his career, suiting up for four teams: the New Jersey Devils, Chicago Blackhawks, Florida Panthers and Boston Bruins. He leaves behind a wife and two young sons, sources report.
