After hearing the heartbreaking story of a Polish Olympian who auctioned off her silver medal to pay for an infant's heart surgery, the purchaser of the medal has told her to keep it.
- The news comes a week after javelin thrower Maria Magdalena Andrejczyk announced she was selling her medal to help 8-month-old Miloszek Malysa, who needs the money for life-saving heart surgery in the United States. Earlier this week, the 25-year-old athlete revealed the top bidder: Polish convenience store chain Zabka, which paid $125,000 for the prize.
- In a message posted Thursday on Facebook, Zabka officials say, "We were moved by the beautiful and extremely noble gesture of our Olympian. We also decided that the silver medal from Tokyo will remain with Ms. Maria, who showed how great she is." Andrejczyk now says the medal is "a symbol of the life we ââfought for together."
