Japanese Mayor Facing Backlash After Biting Down On Olympic Gold Medal

A Japanese Mayor is facing a major backlash - for chomping down on a local athlete's Olympic gold medal!

Nagoya mayor Takashi Kawamura was congratulating softball player Miu Goto on her team's victory when he lowered his facemask and bit down on the medal. Critics immediately lashed out at Kawamura for "lacking respect" - not to mention violating the strict COVID-19 restrictions.

"I forgot my position as Nagoya mayor and acted in an extremely inappropriate way," the mayor later said.

Olympic officials say they will swap out Goto's medal for an unbitten one -- but Mayor Kawamura will be footing the bill.
