Meet KFI's Employee Of The Month For August...Laila Muhammad!

We might be a little biased, but we have an AMAZING crew here at KFI. They are the hardest working people in radio.

From those you hear on-air regularly to those behind the scenes, there's a lot of moving parts to what makes up the ultimate final on-air product and their work is invaluable. Without them, KFI wouldn't be KFI!

So each month, we present one of these amazing and dedicated employees with the KFI Employee of The Month honor to recognize them and to give you a little more insight into those that bring you the KFI you love each day, and the best part is that these winners are chosen by their peers!

Each Employee of the Month receives a few fun prizes, a certificate, an official award, will be featured in an on-air promo and their name will be enshrined on a perpetual plaque that will be located in our building.

So, we'd like to introduce you to KFI's Employee of the Month for August....Laila Muhammad!

From the day Laila joined our team in October 2019, we knew she would be amazing. From news anchor to co-host, to taking over hosting duties for iHeart's CEO's You Should Know podcast, Laila has proven to be an invaluable part of the KFI Team.

But she's not just an amazing radio personality, she's an awesome TV personality as well. With her work on California Live for NBC, Laila's interviewed local business owners, newsmakers and others inspiring all of us to follow our passion.

Here's what some of Laila's co-workers had to say about her:

"She is the ULTIMATE team player for this station! She can do ANYTHING and is AMAZING at it!"
"She's on it! Knows her stuff. Professional. Fun. Great energy. Has been a nice addition to the newsroom."
"Laila has amazing energy that literally infuses everyone around her. If you were in a bad mood before you encountered Laila, that mood changes simply by being in her presence. People love working with her because she's professional, kind and above all, a strong woman!"
"From anchoring to hosting, Laila can do it all. She's a team player that's willing to try anything new. If anything intimidates her, you'd never know it."
"Beating the old school 'radio boys' at their own game. She shows up, she doesn't need to 'demand' respect, she simply gets it by being professional and a kind co-worker to her peers."
"Her voice is a calming influence in a world of crazy....Laila was the missing piece of our team puzzle we've been looking for...for a long time!"

Where did you grow up?

Ft. Bragg/Fayetteville, NC

How long have you worked in radio?

This is my first radio job! I've been in TV news for 16 years. Fun fact, my first internship in college was at my hometown radio station in NC.

What made you decide on a career in radio?

I kind of stumbled into it. I was always interested in working in radio but the opportunity didn't present itself until I moved to LA. Once I got the hang of running the board for my newscasts, I was hooked.

What do you like most about your job?

I don't have to do my hair and makeup to anchor! Seriously. I also love the team at KFI. We are a small but mighty team and we enjoy working together. I laugh a lot!

Any pet peeves?

People chewing with their mouths open and smacking their food

Favorite hobbies:

Traveling with friends or solo, reading, watching reality TV, exercising, going on hikes with friends in LA

Favorite food / drink?

Depends on the day! I love Seafood, tacos, and Mac and Cheese (but not all together)

What does the perfect 'day off' for you consist of?

Grabbing a good book and heading to the beach! I love going to the beach. I read, nap, meditate, and get a good tan.

What's the one thing that people don't know about you?

One of my career goals is to be the voice of an animated movie character!

Any advice for anyone just starting in the radio business?

Be yourself on air, be consistent, be confident, and have fun!
