SANTA ANA (CNS) - A 27-year-old man was sentenced to 16 years to life in prison for beating a woman to death in a Costa Mesa park, court records obtained today show.

Daniel Correa pleaded guilty Thursday to second-degree murder with a sentencing enhancement for the personal use of a deadly weapon. He was given credit for 1,247 days spent in custody since his arrest in 2018.

Correa, who was homeless at the time, killed 29-year-old Ashley Boulay on Feb. 28, 2018, in Talbert Regional Park, according to police.

Correa called police about 7:10 that morning saying he found a woman's body in the park. Officers found the victim's body at the Talbert Nature Preserve at 1299 Victoria St.
