Recall Newsom

Friday, July 16th is a big day in the recall election of CA Governor, Gavin Newsom, as it is the official filing deadline for candidates hoping to derail Newsom from his position. The filing deadline will decipher the field of Republican challengers to Newsom and whether a Democrat will have the gall to challenge one of their own.

Currently, there are over two dozen Republicans that have thrown their name in the hat with their intentions to run in the recall election. Some of those Republicans include former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer, reality star Caitlyn Jenner, GOP challenger John Cox. Some are more plausible than others, but they are all confident that they can derail Newsom and bring California back to order. While the official filing deadline is this Friday, July 16th, Secretary of State Shirley Weber's office is expected to release a list of Newsom's challengers on July 22nd. If that name sounds familiar, Shirley Weber is Newsom's own appointed Secretary of State, that he is now in the process of suing. He is suing her because he believes he is receiving unfair treatment and to correct his campaign's oversight of not asking that his name be linked to the Democratic Party on the recall ballot.

There is currently no hint of a serious Democrat to challenge Newsom, but there is always a possibility one will step up to challenge the wreckage Newsom's has left around California. Polling suggests that Newsom will likely keep his seat, but many are saying to expect the unexpected and anything can happen.

Newsom's recall election is slated to take place on September 14th.
