17th Whale of 2021 Washes Up in San Francisco

A dead whale washed up on San Francisco's Ocean Beach Monday.

  • The incident marks the 17th time this year that a dead whale has washed up in the San Francisco Bay, according to city officials. In April, four whales turned up on San Francisco beaches over the course of just one week.
  • Experts say while finding dead whales on beaches isn't uncommon, finding so many in such a concentrated area isn't. They're conducting a necropsy on the latest washed-up whale in an attempt to figure out what killed it, they say.
  • Why do you think more whales are dying?
