LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti is out of town on what his office today said was a “personal trip'' this week, as city and state officials are set to lift the vast majority of COVID-19 restrictions.
Garcetti left the state on Sunday and is set to return on Thursday, according to his office, which declined to give specifics.
The trip comes as the Los Angeles City Council returns to in-person meetings at City Hall this week and California officials are set on Tuesday to scrap the Blueprint for a Safer Economy, lifting the vast majority of its restrictions and eliminating the tier system.
While restrictions on business activity and capacity limits will be removed and dozens of Gov. Gavin Newsom's emergency actions will be rescinded, mask-wearing will continue to be a reality for non-vaccinated residents, at businesses that require them and for people who feel safer wearing them.
Council members will return to Los Angeles City Hall for its first in-person meeting during the pandemic since March 2020. Council members will be allowed inside the chambers with one staff member, and all attendees must be vaccinated, according to Council President Nury Martinez' office. Mask requirements for council members inside the chambers is yet to be determined, her office said, adding that it would do its best to keep up with the state's changing guidelines.
