Fire Damages Commercial Building in Chinatown

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A one-story commercial building in Chinatown was damaged by fire just before midnight, authorities said today.

It took 36 firefighters 18 minutes to put out the flames on the 400 block of West Ord Street, said Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Firefighters had to force entry into the garage level, then up into the building where they found the unit engulfed in flames, which apparently started in one of the vehicles below, Prange said.

No injuries were reported and the cause remains under investigation.
