POMONA (CNS) - Three men were jailed in Pomona this morning on gun and warrant violations after leading officers on a pursuit that was called off due to the erratic driving of the suspect.
Police tried to stop a speeding driver about 9:40 p.m. Thursday in the area of Mission Boulevard and San Antonio Avenue, but the driver took off and a chase was initiated, according to Cpl. Paul Lucifora of the Pomona Police Department.
During the pursuit, one of the passengers ran from the vehicle. The chase was canceled due to the suspect's erratic driving, which posed a danger to public safety, Lucifora said.
Members of the department's Major Crimes Task Force later located the suspect vehicle parked behind a building in the area of Towne Avenue and Holt Boulevard. As officers approached the vehicle, one of the passengers, David Preston, 20, of Ontario, ran off, but was captured a short distance away. It was discovered Preston had an outstanding warrant for his arrest, Lucifora said.
The driver, Angel Ramos, 18, of Pomona, and another passenger, Robert Diaz, 18, of Los Angeles, were each found to be carrying loaded unregistered guns that did not contain serial numbers, Lucifora said.
The three suspects were booked at the Pomona city jail. The passenger who earlier ran off was not located.
