LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles County's seasonally adjusted unemployment rate inched upward to 11.7% in April, from a revised 11.4% in March, according to figures released today by the state Employment Development Department.
The 11.7% rate is below the 18.3% rate in April 2020, when COVID-19 shut-down orders began taking wide effect.
In Orange County, where seasonally adjusted numbers were not available, the April jobless rate was 6.2%, below the March rate of 6.4%.
Statewide, the seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 8.3% in April, the same as March but below the April 2020 rate of 16%. The comparable estimates for the nation were 6.1% in April, 6% in March and 14.8% in April 2020.
According to the EDD, total nonfarm employment in Los Angeles County increased by 34,600 jobs between March and April to reach about 4.14 million. The leisure and hospitality sector led the way by adding 19,900 jobs.
