Street Racer Kills Self, Innocent Driver in South Gate

SOUTH GATE (CNS) - A suspected street racer died in a collision that killed the driver of uninvolved vehicle in South Gate, police said today.

The crash was reported at 7:42 p.m. Sunday in the 2300 block of Firestone Boulevard, said South Gate police Lt. R. Amador.

A witness told police one vehicle may have been involved in a street race in which the driver lost control, striking a vehicle on the other side of the road, Amador said.

One of the vehicles burst into flames and both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene, he said. There were no passengers in either vehicle.

Firestone Boulevard was shut down in both directions at the crash scene for the investigation, he said.
