Jumper Causes Full Closure of Westbound Santa Monica Freeway

SANTA MONICA (CNS) - A person jumped off an overpass to his or her death in Santa Monica today, prompting a full closure of a portion of the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway, police reported.

The fatality was reported just before 2 p.m. at the Fourth Street exit of the westbound 10 Freeway, according to the Santa Monica Police Department. The person was pronounced dead at the scene.

The California Highway Patrol issued a SigAlert for an unknown duration as all lanes of the westbound Santa Monica Freeway at Lincoln Boulevard were blocked for the investigation and body retrieval. Caltrans announced about 4:40pm that all lanes were reopened to traffic.
