VAN NUYS (CNS) - Criminal charges were filed today against a man accused of firebombing the Los Angeles Police Department's Topanga Station.
Jonathon Rosin, 24, of Canoga Park, pleaded not guilty to one felony count each of use of destructive device and explosive to injure/destroy and arson of an inhabited structure or property, according to the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.
Rosin allegedly threw a Molotov cocktail at the front window of the police station at 21501 Schoenborn St. about 12:55 a.m. Sunday.
The flames were quickly extinguished by a supervisor, and officers took Rosin into custody without incident at Canoga Avenue and Roscoe Boulevard, according to Los Angeles police, who noted that officers observed that he smelled like gasoline.
No one was injured in the attack, which police said was witnessed by multiple LAPD personnel via a video surveillance system.
Rosin has remained behind bars since his arrest just after 1 a.m. Saturday, jail records show.
"Everyone should feel safe in their workplace and that includes police officers," District Attorney George Gascon said in a written statement announcing the charges. "We will not tolerate brazen acts of violence directed at anyone."
