Chipotle Announces Wage Increase; $15 Per Hour Average by Late June

NEWPORT BEACH (CNS) - Newport Beach-based Chipotle Mexican Grill, which is looking to hire 20,000 workers for its peak season and to staff about 200 restaurants it plans to open this year, announced today it is increasingwages to an average of $15 by the end of June.

The wage increases for new and existing hourly and salaried restaurant employees will be rolled out over the next few weeks and will result in hourly starting wages ranging from $11-$18 per hour, according to the fast-food chain.

Chipotle is also introducing a $200 employee referral bonus for crew members and a $750 referral bonus for apprentices or general managers amid the pandemic-battered restaurant industry's nationwide struggle to fill positions as coronavirus vaccinations increase and government restrictions ease.

Chipotle will hold a virtual career fair on community platform Discord on Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Chipotle's Discord server (https://discord.gg/ChipotleCareerFair) will feature recruitment content and live sessions with Chipotle employees, who will chat with career fair participants about what it's like to work in a Chipotle restaurant.
