Average L.A. County Gas Price Rises for 37th Straight Day

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - The average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in Los Angeles County rose today for the 37th consecutive day and 57th time in 58 days, increasing six-tenths of a cent to $3.919, its highest amount since Nov. 22, 2019.

The average price has increased 57.1 cents in the past 58 days, including nine-tenths of a cent on Wednesday, according to figures from the AAA and Oil Price Information Service. It is 7.3 cents more than one week ago, 34.9 cents higher than one month ago and 53.7 cents greater than one year ago.

The Orange County average price rose for the 38th consecutive day and 71st time in 72 days, increasing four-tenths of a cent to $3.902, its highest amount since Nov. 20, 2019.

It has increased 67.8 cents in the past 72 days, including a half-cent on Wednesday. It is 6.7 cents more than one week ago, 34.2 cents higher than one month ago and 58.1 cents greater than one year ago.

Prices are rising because refinery utilization is at a record low -- tightening gas supplies. They're also up because the more expensive summer-blend fuel is in the marketplace; because of a modest increase in demand as people drive more; and because of higher crude oil prices stemming from the dollar's drop in value relative to other currencies, according to Jeffrey Spring, the Automobile Club of Southern California's corporate communications manager.
