Stimulus Package Saves 27,000 Airline Jobs

American Airlines and United Airlines have withdrawn more than 27,000 employee furloughs thanks to the $1.9 trillion federal stimulus package.

  • After the bill was passed by the House on Wednesday, American CEO Doug Parker told employees that furloughs were "happily canceled - you can tear them up!"
  • United CEO Scott Kirby announced that "Thousands of frontline workers will now receive paychecks and health care through September".
  • The airline industry has hemorrhaged money since the pandemic began, with air traffic down 60% from one year ago.
