Three Arrested, Assault Rifle Seized, Following Pursuit on 10 Freeway

POMONA (CNS) - Two women and a man were arrested and an assault rifle was seized after a crash ended a pursuit from City Terrace to Pomona, authorities said today.

The incident started at 9:34 p.m. Sunday near City Terrace, when deputies attempted to stop a vehicle whose occupants were believed in possession of an illegal assault rifle, according to Deputy Tracy Koerner of the Sheriff's Information Bureau.

The driver refused to yield and got onto the eastbound Pomona (10) Freeway, Koerner said.

Deputies and then the California Highway Patrol pursued the four-door sedan until it crashed into a curb while trying to exit the freeway at South Towne Avenue at a high rate of speed, he said.

The three suspects were taken into custody for suspicion of possession of an illegal firearm and the assault rifle was recovered, Koerner said.
