Power Interrupted on Westside of L.A. Following Fire at DWP Facility

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Electrical service was knocked out today to about 45,000 customers in neighborhoods on the Westside of Los Angeles due to a fire at a Los Angeles Department of Water and Power receiving station.

Firefighters were sent to the facility in the 1800 block of Centinela Avenue at 10:16 a.m. and extinguished the flames, the Los Angeles Fire Department reported. No one was hurt.

“Our crews are responding to the outage affecting some neighborhoods on the Westside,'' the LADWP tweeted late Wednesday morning. “The outage was caused by a fire at one of our receiving stations located nearby.''

The outage affected customers in a number of neighborhoods, including Mar Vista, Rancho Park and Palms, according to the utility. Restoration of power was expected by Wednesday afternoon, though some customers were already reporting that their power was back on shortly before noon.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.
