CHP Officer and Two Other People Seriously Injured in Freeway Crash

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A California Highway Patrol motorcycle officer and two other people were seriously injured today in a multi-vehicle crash that prompted closure of the westbound Santa Monica (10) Freeway near downtown Los Angeles.

Paramedics were sent to the freeway near Normandie Avenue at 10:43 a.m., according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

A motorist was detained by officers, reportedly while trying to flee the scene.

The westbound 10 Freeway was expected to remain closed east of Normandie Avenue for about six hours, according to the CHP. Also closed was the connector road from the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway to the westbound 10 Freeway.
