Authorities in California are searching for a man who\ robbed a restaurant that refused to serve him because he was not wearing a mask. Police said that two men walked into a Roscoe's House of Chicken and Waffles in Pasadena on Wednesday (February 3) night to grab some dinner.
One of the men was not wearing a mask and was told he needed to wear one if he wanted to order food. The man refused and started arguing with an employee. The argument quickly escalated, and the suspect pulled out a gun on the cashier.
"He came inside the restaurant without a mask, the cashier told him he needed a mask, he told the cashier 'if I don't put on a mask what you going to do' and then pulled out a gun," general manager Angela Prieto told KTTV.
The man then stormed into the kitchen and demanded food from the kitchen staff.
"He's pointing a gun at me and just says 'put the chicken in the bag,'" cook Robert Gonzalez told the news station.
The cooks refused to hand over the food, so the suspect grabbed a few bags of takeout orders and ran out the back door.
"He didn't take any cash," Prieto said. "He actually took chicken, and before he walked out the door, he took syrup for his chicken."
Deputies with the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department were nearby and witnessed part of the incident. They gave chase to the suspect as he fled in a vehicle but lost him once he pulled onto the freeway.
Authorities said the gunman is in his 30s or 40s with a thin build, black curly hair, and tattoos on his neck and face. He was wearing a green sweater and white sweatpants with black polka dots.
