The ongoing Covid situation has affected local small businesses and many are struggling to stay open. In an effort to help those small businesses survive, we are featuring them in a segment we call #SmallBusinessShoutout brought to you by SoCal Gas Company.
Today we'd like to introduce you to Rajas Con Crema in the city of Maywood!
We received an email from a listener named Jasmine who told us about this place and the wonderful owners, Javier and Alicia. She told us:
"I wanted this business to be showcased in the #SmallBusinessShoutout, as being a fairly newer business, they have been struggling to keep above water during this pandemic. The owners are Alicia and Javier, and this restaurant has been Alicia's vision to open for many years. Javier is a high school math teacher and is still currently teaching and helping in the evening hours to maintain the business. The business also offers catering services, which has almost fully gone away or them with our local stay-at-home orders. They are trying to keep their restaurant staff employed, however, business has slowed significantly since they are no longer getting the dine in (or outside) business."
The restaurant features BOTH Mexican and Italian cuisine, not as a fusion, but side by side. And listener Jasmine has a few favorite dishes!
"My absolute favorite dish is the Carne in su Jugo which is meat in a very tasty broth with beans and toppings of onions, cilantro and bacon. My mom's personal favorite dish is the Pasta Boscailoa with Pancetta which is an egg pasta cooked to perfection that reminds you exactly of Italy. But most importantly, they are known for their Pollo con Rajas con Crema which is chicken with roasted pasilla chiles in a cream sauce that is an absolute must try. I can honestly say every dish I tried is phenomenal!"
