Joe Biden's Presidential Twitter Account Will Be Reset With Zero Followers

Well, it looks like Joe Biden's official presidential Twitter account will be starting over from scratch when he becomes President...

Twitter announced the plans to wipe the @POTUS and @WhiteHouse accounts with zero tweets and zero followers once Biden takes office next month - something that didn't happen when Donald Trump took over the account from President Obama in 2017. The accounts for @VP, @FLOTUS, @PressSec, @Cabinet, and @LaCasaBlanca will also have their followers wiped, according to Twitter.

The tweets from the Trump administration will be archived onto new accounts, such as @POTUS45 and @WhiteHouse45, and will be maintained by the National Archives and Records Administration (or NARA).

“Twitter will notify followers of these accounts to provide context that the content will be archived and allow them the choice to follow the Biden administration’s new accounts," a Twitter representative said in a statement to Variety on Tuesday.

The @POTUS account currently has about 33.2 million followers, less than half of the 88.5 million followers for Trump's personal Twitter account.
