Blind Owl Among Dozens of Neglected Animals Seized from Woman’s House

Animal cruelty charges have been levied against a Hamden, Connecticut woman after police found dozens of neglected animals in her home; some of them in critical condition.

Donna Scirocco faces six counts of animal cruelty after authorities discovered 26 cats, six dogs, two squirrels, a blind owl and two large rats on her property. Police also found two dead cats and a deceased woodchuck.

A few of the animals had to be euthanized. The rest were placed in animal shelters.

Authorities were alerted when nearby residents complained of a smell coming from Scirocco’s home and rats roaming their neighborhood.

The house has since been condemned by health officials.
