La Habra Police Pursue, Arrest Man Suspected of Stealing Off-Road Vehicle

LA HABRA (CNS) - Police in La Habra pursued a man suspected of stealing an off-road vehicle from a dealer into the city of Cerritos before using a K9 officer to arrest him, authorities said today.

The pursuit started at 9:40 p.m. Sunday when an  officer saw a pickup truck leaving the off-road sports dealer in the 300 block of East Imperial Highway in a pickup truck towing a trailer with an allegedly stolen vehicle on it, said La Habra police Lt. James Tigner.

The suspect refused to stop and led officers on the ground and in a helicopter on a pursuit west on Imperial Highway that ended at 9:54 p.m. at Bloomfield Avenue and Artesia Boulevard, Tigner said.

The suspect crashed the truck into a traffic signal control box and tried to run away but the K-9 officer stopped him, the lieutenant said.

The suspect was taken to a  hospital for treatment of dog bites but no other civilians or officers were injured, Tigner said.

Officers were continuing to investigate to determine if any other suspects were involved, he said.
