LAKE VIEW TERRACE (CNS) - A brush fire broke out in the Hansen Dam area of Lake View Terrace this morning and scorched an acre of vegetation.

The fire was first reported in the 12000 block of Osborne Street about 3:30 a.m. and had already burned a quarter-acre by the time firefighters arrived, said Margaret Stewart of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

By about 4:45 a.m., the fire had burned one acre and was charring medium to heavy brush on flat ground with no wind, but no homes were threatened, she said.

Four Los Angeles County Fire Department hand crews were called in to help establish a containment line and clearing brush in the area and an LAFD water-dropping helicopter was headed to the scene, Stewart said.

Progress of the flames were stopped about 5 a.m. and firefighters had nearly 100% containment of the fire, Stewart said.

No injuries were immediately reported and the cause of the fire was unknown.
