LA CANADA FLINTRIDGE (CNS) - Deputies arrested two suspected car thieves and recovered the car early today with the help of a high-tech device that can read license plate numbers and alert law enforcement.

It started at 1:20 a.m. when deputies from the Crescenta Valley Sheriff's Station were alerted by the Flock Safety camera system that a stolen white Nissan Sentra was in the La Canada Flintridge area, sheriff's officials said.

They spotted the vehicle near Gould Avenue and Foothill Boulevard and stopped the car in a shopping center, officials said.

The two people inside the vehicle were detained while deputies searched the car and found narcotics and evidence of identity theft, officials said.

The suspects were arrested for suspicion of grand theft auto, the officials said.
