Officer, Three Others Hurt in Garden Grove Crash

GARDEN GROVE (CNS) - A Garden Grove police cruiser was involved in a three-vehicle collision today that sent four people, including an officer, to an area hospital with minor injuries.

The crash occurred just before 3 p.m. at Chapman Avenue and Haster Street, according to Garden Grove police Lt. Carl Whitney.

The police car was eastbound on Chapman passing through a green light when it was struck by a vehicle whose driver went through a red light, Whitney said. The collision caused the police unit to spin out of control and slam into a third car containing three people, he said.

The woman behind the wheel of that car, along with a 16-year-old and a toddler riding with her, were taken to an area hospital with minor injuries as was the officer, Whitney said. The driver who failed to stop at the red light avoided injury, Whitney said.

The California Highway Patrol will investigate the crash, he said.
