LOS ANGELES (CNS) - For those concerned that Hollywood simply doesn't have enough awards shows, the Critics Choice Association came to the rescue today, announcing plans for the inaugural Critics Choice Super Awards, honoring the superhero, horror and sci-fi genres.
The show will also pay homage to fantasy, action and animation programming, on the big and small screens. The inaugural show will be produced remotely in accordance with relevant COVID-19 safety protocols and aired as a special on The CW Network on Jan. 10, according to the association.
“The time has come to recognize the brilliance, creativity and artistic excellence showcased in genres that, for far too long, have been overlooked by other award shows,'' Critics Choice Association CEO Joey Berlin said in a statement. “We are thrilled to be partnering with our friends at The CW to bring these beloved genres to the forefront and give them the recognition they so deeply deserve.''
Nominations for the awards will be announced Nov. 19.
In addition to honoring top performers in each genre, the awards will also present honors for best action movie, best animated movie, best superhero movie, best horror movie and best sci-fi/fantasy movie. The same categories will be recognized for TV and streaming productions.
The awards will honor films and programming released during the 2020 calendar year.
