Gang Member Runs From Traffic Stop in Pomona, Gun Found in Vehicle

POMONA (CNS) - A documented gang member who police say ran from a traffic stop in Pomona was jailed this morning on suspected weapons and drug violations.

Officers with the Pomona Police Department's Major Crimes Task Force stopped a vehicle in the area of Garey and Grand avenues about 11:45 p.m. Tuesday for a window tint violation, but the driver didn't immediately stop, according to Sgt. M. Medellin.

The suspect, identified as Gustavo Maldonado, 32, from Pomona, stopped the vehicle about a half-mile away, in the area of Garey and Franklin avenues, and ran from the vehicle, but was caught a short distance away. A loaded gun was found in the vehicle, Medellin said.

Maldonado is a documented gang member and was booked at the Pomona city jail on drug and gun charges, as well as a probation violation, Medellin said.
