Woman Alleges She Was Discriminated as a Single Mom

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - A woman is suing the Walt Disney Co., alleging she was denied a job as an account analyst earlier this year because she is a single mother.

Amber Moore's Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit alleges sex and gender discrimination and failure to prevent discrimination. She seeks unspecified damages in the suit filed Thursday.

A Disney representative did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

Moore applied for an opening as a senior financial account analyst position at Disney on Feb. 26 and was interviewed by Disney's manager of financial accounting, the suit states. She had a second interview on March 6, and hours later was being given the job, the suit states.

Moore was “thrilled to get the position,'' the suit states.

But three days later, Moore was told that after further consideration, her employment offer was revoked because she would “not be able to meet the expectations of the position (by) being a single mother,'' the suit states.

Moore told a Disney human resources representative about what she believed was discrimination, but instead of correcting the situation, Disney conducted a sham investigation into her complaint and said there was no wrongdoing in the decision to not hire her, according to the suit.

Moore was told she had “performance issues'' during her past employment with Disney, but she believes that was a pretext to cover up the alleged discrimination, the suit states.
