‘Game Of Thrones’ Star Jonathan Pryce Cast As Prince Philip In ‘The Crown’

Even though the fourth season of Netflix's popular historical drama The Crown has yet to premiere, fans are already getting excited about the upcoming fifth and sixth seasons. As more casting news breaks, the hype for the final seasons grows.

On Thursday (August 13), Deadline confirmed another new addition to the cast. Oscar-nominated actor Jonathan Pryce will join The Crown as the final iteration of Prince Philip. He will star alongside Imelda Staunton, who was previously announced to be taking over the role of Queen Elizabeth. In addition to Pryce and Staunton, Lesley Manville will also join the cast as Princess Margaret.

Pryce will be the third actor to take on the role of the Duke of Edinburgh over the course of The Crown's run. He succeeds actors Tobias Menzies and Matt Smith in the role. Many fans will recognize Pryce for his Oscar-nominated work in the 2019 film The Two Popes as Pope Francis, as well as his memorable turn as the High Sparrow in Game Of Thrones.

It's unclear when season five of The Crown will begin filming, however, fans can likely expect to see the fourth season arrive on Netflix later this year.
