Today, Joe Biden finally announced his vice presidential running mate - California Senator Kamala Harris.

With the choice, Biden keeps his 'promise' to select a woman of color as his running mate, while Harris makes history as the first-ever African American woman to run for vice president on a major party ticket.

In an email to supporters on Tuesday, Biden said "I need someone working alongside me who is smart, tough, and ready to lead. Kamala is that person."

Not long after the announcement, the Trump campaign released a statement and digital ad on Twitter attacking Harris:

“It’s hard to pick somebody that’s that disrespectful,” Trump said during a press conference on Tuesday, adding: “I thought she was the meanest, the most horrible, most disrespectful of anybody in the U.S. Senate."

Biden and Harris will make their first official appearance as running mates on Wednesday at a virtual fundraiser in Biden's home state of Delaware.
