Shooting At Sylmar Family Gathering Leaves Two Dead, Another Injured

SYLMAR (CNS) - Detectives today investigated a shooting they believe is gang-related that killed two men attending a family gathering in Sylmar and left a third seriously wounded.

The shooting occurred in the 12900 block of Borden Avenue, near Sylmar High School, about 6:40 p.m. Sunday, according to representatives with the Los Angeles Fire Department and Los Angeles Police Department.

A red car drove up to the location and three men wearing red hooded sweatshirts and bandanas jumped out of the car and fired into the crowd, police said. The suspects got back into the car and drove off.

One man, who is approximately between 20 and 30 years old, was pronounced dead at the scene, said Nicholas Prange of the Los Angeles Fire Department.

Another man in the same age range died at a hospital, and a third victim, also around the same age, was taken to a hospital with a gunshot wound but has been released, according to police.

“It's an ongoing investigation and we don't yet have a motive for the shootings,'' LAPD Sgt. Karen Spencer said Sunday.

Anyone with information on the shooting was asked to call LAPD's Mission Division at 818-838-9800. Anonymous tipsters can also call Crime Stoppers at 800-222-8477.
