HUNTINGTON BEACH (CNS) - Authorities were investigating today a series of poisonings targeting homeless people in Huntington Beach.

Food laced with oleoresin capsicum, which is twice as strong as the pepper spray used by police, was given to homeless individuals and their reactions to the poisoned food was filmed, according to a statement from the Orange County District Attorney's office.

The tainted food caused the victims to suffer seizure-like symptoms, difficulty breathing, vomiting and intense mouth and stomach pain, with several of the victims requiring hospitalization, the statement said.

The OCDA's office and Huntington Beach officials will hold a newsconference Monday to further discuss the incidents.
