President Trump Calls On Governors To Reopen Churches

President Trump is calling on state governors to allow churches to reopen their doors this weekend.

On Friday afternoon, Trump said governors "need to do the right thing and allow these very important essential places of faith to open right now". If not, Trump promised to "override" the governors. The Justice Department has already been pressuring states like California, claiming it's unconstitutional to allow businesses to reopen but not religious institutions.

"Some governors have deemed liquor stores and abortion clinics as essential, but not churches," he said. "It's not right. So I'm correcting this injustice and calling houses of worship essential."

Dr. Deborah Birx of the White House Coronavirus Task Force added that if any church leaders have questions or concerns, they should contact their local health departments.

“Certainly, people that have significant comorbidities, we want them protected. I know those houses of worship want to protect them, so really ensuring that maybe they can’t go this week if there’s a high number of COVID cases, maybe they wait another week,” Birx said.

Trump finished his remarks by saying "In America we need more prayer, not less."
