LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Los Angeles Animal Services today announced a pet search function on its website that includes animals in its foster care system, in addition to its sheltered animals.
“There are more than 300 pets currently staying with foster families,” said Brenda Barnette, the general manager of LAAS. “When animals are in foster, we are able to gain valuable information about these wonderful animals from their foster families.”
Barnette said this helps LAAS determine whether the animals are suitable for children, other dogs or cats in the home and gives potential adopters a better idea of the animal's personality traits.
The animals can be searched at laanimalservices.com/pet-search. People can select a pet for adoption by calling 888-452-7381 with the Animal ID number (example: A1234567), and LAAS will share information about the animal.
If the animal is in foster care, an LAAS staff member will arrange for a meeting at the designated shelter or schedule a video meeting with the foster family in question.
Shelters are still operating during the COVID-19 pandemic, and people who make appointments to meet a potential pet can still do so, but they are limited to accommodating no more than 10 people at a time, including staff.
To comply with social distancing requirements, LAAS will schedule appointments daily from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the four operating city animal shelters.
