Man Uses His Savings to Buy Gas for Detroit Nurses

What have you done to help essential workers during this time?

A picture of a Detroit man holding a sign reading "free gas for nurses" has gone viral.

Marshall Allen held up the sign last Wednesday and Thursday at a gas station near the Detroit Medical Center. Allen told WDIV-TV that he was using the only $900 he had in savings "to thank the essential workers in the best way that I can."

“With all that is going on with the coronavirus, I wanted to thank the essential workers the best way that I can,” Marshall explained to regional CNN affiliate WDIV. “I really don’t need that tool and thought this was a better way to spend the money.”

Allen's kind deed allowed over 50 nurses to put gas in their vehicles with Allen adding "it takes just a small gesture to show someone you care."
