Cops Find Pit Bull Behind The Wheel After High-Speed Car Chase

A man from Washington State was arrested after he tried to teach his pit bull to drive. Troopers received multiple reports that a driver had hit two vehicles and fled the scene at a high rate of speed. When officers tracked down the car, they were shocked to see that a pit bull was behind the wheel.

They chased the vehicle down the highway, while the owner was steering and pressing the gas pedal from the passenger's seat. At one point, the car veered off the road and onto a trail for pedestrians and bicyclists. After he got back on the road, officers deployed a spike strip, which caused the car to crash, ending the wild high-speed chase.

The dog's owner, identified as Alberto Tito Alejandro, 51, told police that he was trying to teach the dog how to drive. Alejandro was taken into custody and was charged with reckless endangerment, hit and run, driving under the influence and felony eluding. He was briefly hospitalized while his dog was taken a local animal shelter.

"I wish I could make this up," trooper Heather Axtman told CNN. "I've been a trooper for almost 12 years, and wow, I've never heard this excuse. I've been in a lot of high-speed chases, I've stopped a lot of cars, and never have I gotten an excuse that they were teaching their dog how to drive."
