'Sonic The Hedgehog' Opens With $57M To Lead Box Office

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - “Sonic The Hedgehog,” a family film based on the popular video game and starring Jim Carrey as the villain, is having a spectacular opening weekend at the box office, leading all films with $57 million, according to industry estimates released today.

“Birds of Prey,” last week's top-grossing film, is in second place, grossing an estimated $17.1 million Friday through Sunday at theaters in the United States and Canada, Comscore reported.

“Blumhouse's Fantasy Island” opened with $12.4 million for third place, followed by “The Photograph” with $12.2 million and “Bad Boys for Life” with $11.3 million.

Rounding out the 10 top-grossing films of the weekend are “1917” ($8 million), “Jumanji: The Next Level” ($5.7 million), “Parasite” ($5.5 million), “Dolittle” ($5 million) and “Downhill” ($4.6 million).
