93-Year-Old Man Shoots Maintenance Worker Over Water Damage In Apartment

A 93-year-old Las Vegas man was arrested for allegedly shooting a maintenance worker because he was upset with water damage in his apartment. Police say that Robert Thomas walked into the management office at Vista Del Valle complex, which is around the corner from the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, to complain about flooding in his unit.

Surveillance video captured Thomas pulling a gun out of his jacket and firing a shot into the back of the office, striking a computer. He allowed a female employee to leave before shooting a male worker at point-blank range. The man, who was sitting in a chair, fell to the floor, writhing in pain. Thomas walked up to him and shot him a second time in the leg.

A few moments later, officer Ronald Hornyak fired a shot through the glass door but missed Thomas. Deputies then stormed inside and tackled him to ground.

"They heard the shot, and the key was the officer told this partner they had to make entry due to the possibility of any more people being injured or killed while inside that apartment complex office, not knowing what they had," Assistant Sheriff Brett Zimmerman said.

Thomas was taken to jail and charged with suspicion of attempted murder, kidnapping, discharge of a firearm indoors, burglary, and carrying a concealed weapon.

The wounded maintenance worker was taken to the hospital and is expected to survive.
