LOS ANGELES (CNS) - An outage that has shut off power for almost 5,000 Department of Water and Power customers in the Venice area over two days continues to affect more than 1,200 locations.
As of 8:45 a.m., crews had restored electricity to a majority of residents, but were still working to repair three underground circuits, according to spokesman Michael Ventre.
“They have to go down and investigate to find out where the problems are,” Ventre said. “Customers will experience on-and-off conditions until the power is fully restored.”
Fluctuations are caused by crews testing the neighborhood power routing system to see if they can get it working, he said.
The lights went out about 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
The outage originally included more than 2,900 customers, but that number was later reduced to 1,800.
Eventually, the impact climbed to 4,700 customers.
Morning traffic was disrupted on Pacific and 18th avenues, Lincoln Boulevard and California Avenue, and the Venice Boardwalk at Rose Avenue.
DWP officials hope to have power restored by noon.
