Missing Texas Mom Found Dead, Her Newborn Found Alive, Family Says

A 33-year-old woman who went missing last week has been found dead, family members tell NBC News. A 3-week-old newborn who also went missing was found alive.

Heidi Broussard, of Austin, Texas, was found dead inside the trunk of a car Friday near a home in Jersey Village, a city near Houston. The child, 3-week-old Margot Casey, was found alive and in good condition, Tammy Broussard, Heidi's mother told the outlet.

Law enforcement did not confirm those details reported by KXAN-TV. A medical examiner will need to officially identify the body, Broussard said.

The car found at the scene was reportedly registered to a Megan Rose Fieramusca, who was taken into custody by Austin Police on Friday for two counts of kidnapping and tampering with evidence. Records show that evidence included a human corpse. Fieramusca and Broussard were "close friends" the outlet reported.

Citing law enforcement sources, Fieramusca allegedly pretended to be pregnant and had been plotting to take Broussard's daughter leading up to the newborn's birth. Broussard and her infant daughter had not been seen or heard from since last week, after she was last seen on Dec. 12 when she dropped off a child at Cowan Elementary School in South Austin.

Fieramusca is currently being held on a $600,000 bond.
