Driver Sought In Fatal South L.A. Hit-and-Run

LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Police released aftermath footage of a hit- and-run crash that fatally injured a pedestrian at a South Los Angeles intersection in hopes the public will help identify the driver.

The hit-and-run crash that took the life of 47-year-old Rufino Miranda occurred about 9:20 p.m. Dec. 4 at Avalon Boulevard and 81st Street, the LAPD reported. The driver kept going despite the fact that Miranda's body became lodged on the car's hood and windshield.

The vehicle -- described by witnesses as a black Ford Fusion -- continued south on Avalon Boulevard with Miranda still on top of the car for about 150 feet, according to the Los Angeles Police Department. Apparently, the suspect then hit the brakes in order to dislodge Miranda.

The victim, who was crossing the street when he was struck, died at a hospital.

No description of the driver was available, police said.

Anyone with information on the hit-and-run was asked to call LAPD South Traffic Division detectives at 213-842-3917 or 323-421-2500. Tipsters can also call the LAPD's 24-hour tipline at 877-527-3247 or Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
