Maria Fire Quickly Scorches Hundreds of Acres

The Los Angeles Fire Department has sent two strike teams -- each with five engines and a battalion chief -- to assist the Ventura County Fire Department in the battle against the Maria Fire that has burned 750 acres near Santa Paula in Ventura County, department spokeswoman Margaret Stewart says. The fire, which broke out just after 6:00 p.m. quickly scorched South Mountain north of Somis. As of 8:00 pm, containment is 0%.
