CHP Officers Injured in Crash in Fountain Valley

FOUNTAIN VALLEY (CNS) - Two California Highway Patrol officers were injured this morning when a vehicle crashed into their cruiser on the southbound San Diego (405) Freeway in Fountain Valley.

The crash occurred about 2:45 a.m. just south of the Warner Avenue exit when the driver of a Toyota Prius was cut off by a big rig and slammed into the back of the CHP vehicle with two officers inside, according to Officer Daniel Howard of the CHP's Westminster Office. The officers were parked in lanes closed for Calrtrans work at the time of the crash.

The officers were taken to a hospital in unknown condition.

Alcohol was not a factor in the crash, Howard said.

The accident prompted the closure of all southbound lanes of the freeway for an unknown duration and traffic was being taken off the freeway at Warner Ave
